Must see: The medieval city
Historical village located in the west side of the Jurisdiction, the internationally renowned commune of Saint-Emilion takes its name from the Breton monk Emilion from Vannes who settled there as a hermit in the 8th century. On his journey along the roads to Santiago de Compostela, the legend says he was charmed by the village (formerly known as “Ascumbas”), decided to stop there and never left.

Welcoming more than a million tourists a year, the medieval city offers architectural wonders (monolithic church, collegiate church, remains of fortifications…) and exceptional views.
