Located in the centre of the Jurisdiction, the commune of Saint-Hippolyte is characterized by a remarkable architectural harmony. At its very heart are the caves of the Château of Ferrand: a historical jewel designed by Élie de Bétoulaud, a lawyer and poet of the 17th century who dug three spaces there: a “love chamber”, a cross-shaped room and a lyre-shaped room, made of niches and benches in homage to Miss de Scudéry and Louis XIV of France. He also installed orange trees and oriental jasmines and organized lavish and extravagant celebrations.
